About the ABVWC .............

The Association of British VW Clubs was created after many members of VW Owners Clubs suffered dissatisfaction in 1987. Consequently, several individual VW Clubs joined together in order to gain benefit from being part of a large national organisation, rather than just members of what was quite often a small, local Owners Club. By banding enthusiasts together in this way, it was hoped that more outlets would offer greater benefits such as discounts for members of a national organisation. 

However, ABVWC would also recognise each individual Club's right to retain its own traditions and methods.

The ABVWC has grown over the years and now represents over 4,500 enthusiasts belonging to over 50 different Clubs nationwide - probably the largest VW group representation in the UK.

Each individual member Club operates on a local level and the ABVWC has no involvement with their organisation. However, for a small annual fee (currently equivalent to 40p per member) it can offer such benefits as discounted insurance rates, lower maintenance and repair costs, cheaper breakdown cover, discounted travel, plus discounted and extra facilities at meetings and shows. This all helps to reduce motoring costs generally for its members and to generate commissions that are paid back to the Clubs who take advantage of the schemes.

An additional benefit that ABVWC membership provides is Third Party Product & Public Liability insurance cover. Many show venues now insist that participating Clubs provide indemnity against their own insurance for public liability insurance - which can be hugely expensive for individual Clubs - irrespective of their size or quantity of events attended. ABVWC has arranged its own comprehensive insurance cover on behalf of its members to the value of £5m per claim.

It organises its own annual show - VW Expo - which is popular with many enthusiasts and has established itself at its latest venue of the (ex Whitbread) Hop Farm at Paddock Wood in Kent since moving there in 2003.
